Test an integration without a provider bill
Echo mode answers from the gateway's own echo terminal: no provider call, no provider key needed, nothing billed.
Symptom
Smoke tests and CI runs through ACE call the real provider and cost money, or cannot run at all before you have a provider key.
Cause
By default a request goes to the provider. Echo mode is a per-key setting, and x-ace-mode overrides it per request.
Fix
Send x-ace-mode: echo on test calls, or turn echo on for a test key. Authentication, headers, routing, streaming and the response envelope behave as in production. Send x-ace-mode: live on production traffic so a key's stored echo flag can never answer it.
